As cool as this is, MIOConsole v.4 goes farther. As a mastering engineer working with 2 tracks the limited access to +DSP wasn't a big problem, but as a sound designer in a ProTools-based facility it became a real limitation.
With MIOConsoleConnect and FireWire Returns, life’s better. It’s easier than ever to get signals to and from +DSP, and I can store my MIO settings with any Pro Tools, soundBlade or Digital Performer session I happen to be working in.
The MIO is the only modern processor I’d dare call ‘classic’: It was great when it arrived in 2001, but it has gotten cooler and more useful with time. Rather than churning users, Metric Halo keeps bringing new features and functions to their tools.” — Dave Davis

FireWire Returns are not just for +DSP users. If you own a 2882 or ULN-2 without +DSP, you can use the FireWire Returns for out of the box mixing, or for direct routing connection between multiple CoreAudio applications.
For example, you can use the FireWire returns to route ANY audio from ANY CoreAudio application to our award winning SpectraFoo application.

You can also use the routing resources to capture the output of any CoreAudio application (or set of CoreAudio applications) using the Record Panel or any other CoreAudio recording application.
No matter how you slice it, FireWire Returns will revolutionize the way you use your Mobile I/O.
